Javea #3
9/27/2026
This week, I had two fun trips around Spain planned. On Monday, I left Valencia with two other friends who live here and headed to Jávea to celebrate one of their birthdays. It’s such a lovely place, and I actually visited it four years ago with another friend as well. It was a week all about relaxing, going out for dinner and enjoying some quality time together.
We ate at the following restaurants, and I can definitely recommend them:
Lulu Beachclub
El Campo
La Siesta
Boulevard has several lovely restaurants
Pluk (great for breakfast or lunch)
Another thing I would definitely recommend is going for a hike at sunrise, or simply finding a nice spot to watch the sunrise. We did the latter. Well, the plan was actually to go on a hike, but we couldn’t really find the trail at the place where we were. Cala del Moraig is definitely a great spot to watch the sunrise. Absolutely beautiful!
About a 30-minute drive away, you’ll find Cala La Granadella, which is also definitely worth a little stop. Despite the pebbles, which weren’t exactly comfortable to lie on and were especially painful to walk over when getting into the sea, it’s a beautiful spot with incredibly clear water. Perfect for taking a refreshing dip in the sea.
One great advantage of being in Jávea was that we missed the storm in Valencia. We saw the images afterwards, and it certainly didn’t look pleasant. Houses with completely flooded floors and metro stations that had to be closed because they were underwater.
This kind of weather can happen in Valencia, especially in September. One of the main reasons is the warm Mediterranean Sea. During this time of year, the seawater is still very warm and adds a lot of moisture to the atmosphere. When cooler air moves in at higher altitudes, it can create strong instability: warm, moist air rises quickly and can form huge storm clouds.
On Friday, it was already time to drive back home. Well, my home in Valencia, that is. I’m still not entirely sure what “home” means at the moment. For now, I still think of the Netherlands as my real home. But anyway, it was time to drive back to Valencia and pack my suitcases all over again.
My second trip was already waiting for me: a week of relaxing in Mallorca, where my mom was already waiting for me. Let the week of relaxing begin!
