Mallorca #4

A whole week of enjoying the sunshine in Mallorca with my mom. How nice is it to live in Valencia and be able to take little trips like this so easily? This week really made me realize that I need to make the most of my time here and actually take these kinds of trips while I can. Before I know it, my time here will be over, because we’re already in week 4 of this adventure!

When I said goodbye to my parents and my best friend at the airport in the Netherlands, it was actually much easier than I had expected. The nice thing was that I knew I would be seeing both my mom and my best friend again within the first month. That definitely made saying goodbye a lot easier and less emotional. So this week, it was my mom’s turn to visit me. Instead of her coming to Valencia, we decided to go on a little holiday together. She flew from the Netherlands to Mallorca, while I flew there from Valencia.

Besides relaxing a lot at our hotel, we also visited a few lovely places around Mallorca. First, we went to the capital, Palma. To be honest, I didn’t really have any expectations, but wow, what a beautiful city! I was really impressed and would definitely love to come back here again. It has lovely little shopping streets, plenty of restaurants and is definitely Instagram-worthy ;).

The next day, we took the authentic train from Palma to Sóller. Besides being a great experience with beautiful views along the way, Sóller is also definitely worth visiting. If you book your ticket online, which I would recommend, it also includes a ticket for the little tram to Port de Sóller. You can easily spend an entire day exploring both places. That’s why we took the second train from Palma at 10:50 AM and headed back from Sóller at 5:00 PM.

Mallorca is also, of course, known for its crystal-clear water and beautiful little coves, so we decided to rent a car for two days. On the first day, we visited several different coves. They were all beautiful in their own way, but also pretty crowded in September. We made a quick stop at Cala Llombards and Cala Petita for a few pictures. At Cala Esmeralda, we were hoping to run into the famous fruit man from Cala d’Or, but unfortunately, we didn’t. Afterwards, we made a quick stop in Portocolom, but we didn’t find it particularly special. Finally, we found a slightly bigger beach where we could put down our towels and take a dip in the sea. Cala Romantica was perfect for this.

On the second day with our rental car, we drove to the two famous little towns of Valldemossa and Deià. When you arrive in Valldemossa, you’ll probably find yourself stuck in a long line of cars waiting for a parking spot, but after looking around for a bit, we managed to find one. At first, I thought it was way too busy and a little overhyped, but once you walk further into the village and explore the quieter little streets, it’s actually really beautiful and definitely worth visiting.

From there, you can drive straight on to Deià. It’s even smaller, basically just a little street you can walk through, but it’s incredibly cute and definitely worth the drive. Finally, you can continue on to Cala de Deià. It’s very beautiful, but it was a little too crowded for me, so I didn’t think it was really worth the visit.

On Sunday, our trip was already over and unfortunately, it was time to head to the airport. My mom back to Amsterdam and me back to Valencia.

See you next week from Valencia! :)
