Valencia #1
9/7/2026
AAHH… My first blog that I get to write for my website! This week was finally moving day to Valencia. You might be wondering why you would move abroad for six months and why I chose Valencia. I actually asked myself that first question this week too, but it didn’t take long for me to realize that this is an adventure I really want to take on. I want to experience what it’s like to step outside of my comfort zone and start fresh in a completely new place.
Valencia isn’t completely new to me. Over the past few years, I’ve visited several times on holiday, and it really is the city in Spain that has everything. A lively city center, a park where you can cycle, walk and chill, the beach just around the corner, and sunshine for around 300 days a year. Sounds like the perfect life, right?
One of the things I really wanted to do before getting older was to travel for a longer period of time or live abroad. In the end, I chose the latter: taking some time to reset, meeting new people and building a life in a new place. When you travel, you’re often in a new place every few days and constantly meet new people, but you don’t always get the chance to build deeper relationships and friendships.
So this week, I left the Netherlands with two large suitcases and one small suitcase and headed to Valencia. The first thing I noticed here was, of course, the sunny weather, but also how relaxed everything feels. In the Netherlands, we’re often very focused on the time, whereas here I notice that things are a lot more laid-back. The days are longer, and there always seems to be a bit of buzz and liveliness around.
I don’t have a job yet, but honestly, I hardly notice a difference between weekdays and weekends. Especially in the evenings, there’s always something going on in this wonderful city.
The first few days were mainly about settling in, taking care of a few practical things and, of course, exploring more of the city. Already curious about all my adventures, tips and upcoming blogs? Stay tuned for a new one soon! :)
