Valencia #7
After two months of holiday, it’s time to get back to work in Valencia! From my first day at the office and soaking up the last bits of sunshine at the beach to running in Turia Park and enjoying evenings on a terrace. Working life has begun, but making the most of the Spanish lifestyle is still just as important! ☀️

This was the week I finally got back into a routine and started working again. Two months of holiday are lovely, but I’m also noticing that it feels good to get back to work. When you’re off, it’s so tempting to stay in bed just a little longer and put everything off for another day.
On Tuesday, I had to report to the office for the first time at 10 AM. It was a short introductory meeting where I signed my contracts and was supposed to open a Spanish bank account. Luckily, I already had one, so I was back home after just 45 minutes. A great tip if you want to work in Spain and need a Spanish bank account: open an account with Openbank. Its services are available entirely in Dutch and English, but Openbank is part of Santander, so it’s Spanish.
After that, it was time to enjoy some sunshine at the beach. I still find it strange to rent a sun lounger in the middle of October, but I absolutely loved it! You can see that the beach season is coming to an end, as all the little places selling food and drinks are being taken down and there are only a limited number of sun loungers left to rent. Even so, I managed to get one and enjoy the sunshine during my last few days off.
Thursday was my first day at work — or, more accurately, my first training day. My workplace is only a 15-minute walk from home, which is such a luxury! Since I work for a Dutch company, they don’t have a siesta here, so I’ll be finishing around 5 PM during my first few weeks. It was time to get my running gear out of the wardrobe and go for my first run in Turia Park. I’ve promised myself that from now on, I’ll go running at least once a week. So, trainers on and off I go!
One of the best things about life in Spain is that the day doesn’t have to end after work and a run. A quick change of clothes, and then it’s time to enjoy some food on a terrace.
After just two working days, my first week was already over, and the weekend could begin! There was a fireworks festival taking place in Valencia that week, with the final show on Friday. After that, it was a pretty normal weekend — but what does normal even mean in Valencia? Drinks on a terrace on Friday evening, dancing in El Carmen, a birthday party on Saturday night, and fitting in some exercise and time with friends in between.
And just like that, the weekend is over again! Curious to find out how I get on during my first full working week? Check out next week’s blog!
